SANGUINE (5/?)
He opened the door to Scully's soft knocking and headed back to the bathroom. "I'll be just a second."
"Did you go jogging this morning?"
"Yeah" He came out tying his tie. She looked confused. "Why?"
"What time?" Her mixed up expression remained.
"I left at about 5, did something happen, Scully?" He took a step closer when he saw her head slightly nod. "What?"
"I heard noises." She whispered. "Someone was here at about 5:30."
"This morning?" He was surprised. "In my room," She nodded again. "Not
yours?" She shook her head. "I didn't notice
anything missing."
"Do you have your gun?"
"Shit." He searched the room, finding is phone and badge. Not the gun.
"He knows where we are."
"Don't panic, you can't be positive its him."
"Who would break into this cheap motel room not knowing what was here
and only leave with your gun? Someone knows
who we are."
"But not necesarally him."
She glared at him. "Would you stop trying to lighten the situation.
You're starting to piss me off. Whoever it is has your gun
now. They could be watching us. Somehow they found out who and where
we are. They must have some intentions if they
went to the trouble."
He nodded. "Ok, if it was him, he'll know that this was my room and
not yours so if he wants to find you, he'd go to yours
next. I think we should switch rooms for tonight."
"You shouldn't be there either, we share this room." She gave him a look that told him it wasn't up for discussion.
"I also think you should go home..." he tried it. He knew she wouldn't agree with it but at least she knew it was an option.
"And I think he'd follow me there."
She had a good point so he dropped the subject. "We should run over to the field office and get that note sent to the lab."
"What are you going to do about your gun?"
"What can I do? It's probably with our guy so we find it we find him... or vica versa."
"You ready?"
"Yeah, let me grab my jacket." He moved to the 'closet' area of the
motel room, sorting through his coats he stopped dead in
his tracks. "Scully, I'm know who took my gun." She watched the fear
grow in his eyes before he turned to meet her own
gaze. She headed towards it, as if trying to look closer, to read his
eyes. Standing in front of him she was afraid to turn and
see what led him to look the way he did just then. "Read it." He whispered.
She turned, relieved it was just a note.
Starbuck - Me again. I see you went home for a while. You know, with
two of you its a lot easier. Thats too much to drive
for one person in one day. Don't bother comparing my writing to the
one on the card you found. It's me, I admit it. There's no
point of you wasting your time. I'm everywhere you are, but you'll
never find me. Never. Not until I'm ready at least. But not
to worry, I'll come to you first. I'm what you want, Starbuck. I'm
so much more then that partner of yours. I can give you so
much more. The things I plan to do to you... never in your wildest
dreams could you imagine. You'll be begging for me to
Fuck you. Don't try to run... I'm right on your tail.

"Oh, God, Mulder." She pulled took pin out that held the note to the
jacket. "This was my favorite when I was a teenager. I
thought I'd lost it." She studied the heart covered in red stones,
lined with
diamond like ones. In the center was a tiny emerald dragonfly. "My father
gave it to me when he came home from a six month
cruise. I treasured it, I was crushed when it disappeared. I never
got up the courage to tell him." Her voice had dropped to a
whisper. They both jumped at the urgent knocking at the door.
